A Nielsen report today announced that social media is now the most popular form of communication between friends, surpassing even email.
How incredibly sad. Yet this finding is absolutely reflected in my correspondence with my friends and family: I no longer make phone calls, I make comments. I no longer send emails, I send tweets. I no longer meet up, instead we Tweetup.
I don't feel its the case yet, but has anyone considered the long term effect all this "pseudo communication" will have on the health of our friendships?
So, over the next couple of days I'll be withdrawing my support from the Facebook experiment. My account will remain active, but it will not be actively monitored, instead it will provide you with my phone number, my email address, my Skype ID and my Instant Message address.
I will be putting a lot more effort into our friendship, I will try and call you on a semi regular basis and because I actually like you, I will try and do much more than just clicking on the like button.
Peace.
