iPad and the Trigger Happy Cold Open.

So the iPad was announced over 1 week ago and the devices form factor made lots of people comment that it looked like a giant iPhone. This in turn made lots more people remark that Dom Joly should come out of his Trigger Happy TV retirement and shoot one of his "obnoxious guy shouting into a large mobile phone" sketches.

Dom Joly complied, the day after the iPad announcement the website funnyordie.com hosted his newly shot sketch (available here: http://www.funnyordie.co.uk/videos/d2b714361c/hello)

A couple of days after that, the comedian wrote about the process of shooting that sketch in his column in the Independent on Sunday (available here: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/columnists/dom-joly/dom-joly-steve-jobs-nicked-my-idea-so-i-nicked-it-back-1884301.html)

Its a great sketch, its utterly predictable but still makes you laugh, its tongue in cheek and you can see from the reaction of people around that no-one was harmed or upset. But for me there was just 1 problem: "Obnoxious man speaking into oversized telephone" tended to be used in a cold open at the start of each Trigger Happy episode, his phone would ring, he'd shout "helloooooo, what? no I'm in an art gallery" (or whatever) proceed to give his opinion, walk off camera and the Elastica soundtrack and animated graphics would kick in. the iPad sketch didn't have this, it just faded to black.

It was still funny, but the missing credits made it feel a bit odd. Kind of like when you put a jumper on back to front, or your left foot in a right shoe.

So I fired up iMovie and stitched in some credits. Yes I'm blatantly breaking copyright, I'm very sorry, but the sketch feels right to me now and as a result, I sleep easier.

Its attached below, enjoy.
